Lost pets
When a pet goes missing, a community can help.
Mark your pet as missing with the city and the spot where they were last seen. The post appears in the list and on the map, and people nearby can comment and help.

The first hours
What to do if your pet goes missing.
Staying calm helps more than panic. These are general, practical steps — in the order they matter.
- 01
First minutes
- Search the spot where they were last seen and call their name calmly.
- Cats often hide very close by — under cars, in basements, bushes and lofts. Take a torch.
- If it’s safe, leave the door or yard open, with water and something that smells familiar.
- 02
First hour
- Mark your pet as missing — with the city and a spot on the map.in VetCare
- Tell neighbours, the building manager and nearby shops; show them a photo.
- Split the search with family and friends — different streets, different directions.
- 03
First day
- Call veterinary clinics and shelters in the area — found animals are often taken there.
- If your pet is microchipped, check the details in the registry where the chip is recorded are up to date.
- Put up posters with a clear photo, the date, the place and a phone number.
- 04
The days after
- Follow the comments on your post and pin the most useful ones.in VetCare
- Search at dusk and early in the morning, when it’s quiet and animals are bolder.
- Don’t give up after the first days — searches often take time.

How it works
A missing-pet post in a minute.
The post isn’t a separate form — it comes from your pet’s profile, so it already has their breed, colour, sex and microchip number.
- 1Open their profile
Pick the pet in “My pets”.
- 2Status: missing
Pick the status in their profile.
- 3City and spot
Where they were last seen — with a pin on the map.
- 4The post is live
In the lost-pets list and on the map.
Comments that actually help.
Any logged-in user can write what they saw and where. You pin the most important comments to the top — so the next person searching reads them first.
- Comments from logged-in users only
- Pinned comments stay on top
- Your phone number — for logged-in users only
- Search by name, city, species, breed and sex; card or map view
Be prepared
The QR card and the microchip.
Every pet in VetCare has a QR card — to print or save as a PNG. Scanning it shows only name, species and breed, never your contacts or health data.
- Put the QR card on the collar — whoever finds your pet knows their name straight away
- With the name, they can find your post in the list of lost pets
- The microchip recorded by your clinic is in the profile; the post shows only its last 4 digits
- Staff at a clinic where your pet is a patient can scan the code and open their record
Found an animal?
If you’ve found an animal.
VetCare doesn’t have a separate “found animal” post. But you can still help it get home:
Lost pet questions
What should I do if my dog is lost?
Start where your dog was last seen and call calmly. Mark them as missing in VetCare with the city and a spot on the map, tell your neighbours and call the veterinary clinics and shelters nearby.
My cat is missing — where should I look?
Cats often hide close to home: under cars, in basements, bushes and lofts. Search with a torch at dusk and early in the morning, when it’s quiet. Mark your cat as missing in VetCare so people in the neighbourhood see it too.
Who can see my post and my phone number?
VetCare users see the post in the lost-pets list and on the map. Your phone number is shown to logged-in users only — never to anonymous visitors.
Can I mark an animal that isn’t mine as missing?
No. Only a pet in your own profile can be marked as missing. If you’ve found an animal, check the list of lost pets and comment on the post if you recognise it.
What happens when my pet comes home?
Change their status back, and the post disappears from the list and the map.
Does the QR card help if my pet gets lost?
The QR card shows only name, species and breed — none of your contacts. Whoever finds your pet learns their name and can look them up in the list of lost pets.
A ready profile is the best preparation.
Create a free account, add your pet and print the QR card. If you ever need it, the missing-pet post is a few taps away.
